Sevuparin - Malaria
There is an acute and widespread need for new malaria therapies. Sevuparin is being developed for the treatment of the most severe forms of the disease. The drug is expected to counter the most severe symptoms and is planned to be given to patients as an adjunct treatment in combination with traditional anti-malaria drugs. No similar drug is currently available on the market and sevuparin has the potential to save severely ill children.
The Market
The potential market is illustrated by the projected incidence of malaria in the coming year:
• 300-500 million people will be infected with malaria
• 5 million will be severely infected
• 2 million patients will not survive the disease. The majority will be children under 5 years of age
• 30 000 travelers will be infected with malaria
